Funding Crisis

Terrier Rescue, as with all rescues, started in a small way in 2002, by taking in an extra foster terrier (who needed a home) in with our two, then 2 and so on. More sad stories, more terriers and other breeds too. Every dog taught us so much and gave us the pleasure of their companionship. Other people came forward to lend a hand. Then one morning you wake up with the house full of dogs, neighbour complaint formalised on the doormat and it dawns on you … you've become a dogaholic! Since Oct 08 we have been restricted by the council as to how many dogs we are allowed in "Lynne's" house. Up until then the rescue work was paying for itself by adoption contributions covering the vet bills though we had started to use a kennel for emergencies.

In November 2008 we entered a new world as a rescue - now any dog we agreed to help, or any dog returned, would be very lucky to receive a foster place, more likely to need kennelling with associated costs. We entered a new era, jumped a quantum leap as a rescue. We were able to help more dogs, but funds ran dry in early January. Our adoption donation no longer in anyway covered our costs. Our kennelled dogs are costing us £7 per day, and we had a growing number saved.

People came forwards to donate in support of our dogs, with amounts from £10 upwards, so vital and very touching. Some people have set up a standing order. Others focus on publicity to help optimise our kennel space i.e. finding our dogs their homes. Forum members have run special days to raise our profile and generate income. We have applied for charitable status which will help. BUT above all we could not continue our work without the subsidies a growing number of vets are offering our dogs. Staffie Rescue has also been created to help our Staffies find their homes, Terrier Rescue having found so many wonderful families for our terriers.

Our Rescue Remedies forum has become a hive of ideas and activity. Have a look at our work revealed through our forum and see our websites. Follow the detailed thread on each of our dogs, our rescue diary and see how you can help. We are all in it to help dogs in their hour of need.

Sponsor a kennel: £7 buys a day per dog per kennel - send £7 via the paypal link below or, if you can afford it, £35 pays for a week. Every little helps towards that dog's kennel fee. We will place your name and town name within the 'day square'. There is a paypal link here should you care to help.
